The orange tree, citrus sinensis originates from Southeast Asia and has been grown for centuries. Orange essential oil is extracted from the orange rind by cold compression. For many cultures, the orange tree symbolises love, marriage, innocence and fertility.

If alone, self massage by rubbing into the shoulders and loosening up the built up tension in the neck area. Alternatively, massage Orange essence into the stomach in a clockwise direction to help aid digestion.

Use as an air freshener around the home in a diffuser or oil burner - citrusy scented essential oils liven up the air thanks to their uplifting, zesty and summery aromas. They work perfectly to slice through any stale odours, leaving the home smelling fresh and clean.

Mix orange essential oil with an emulsifier and add a few drops to your bath water on a morning for an invigorating start to the day.

DIY sugar scrub for lips

For kissably soft lips, try this all natural sugar scrub, or even mix and match your favourite oils to plump, soothe or soften. We love the combination of Peppermint and Orange in this version, which lifts the spirits and leaves you with a slight tingle on your lips. It’s also great as a quick breath freshener.

Simply stir the below ingredients together and massage into your lips in small circles.When you’ve had enough and your lips feel fantastic, just lick the scru off. Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone. This recipe makes around half a cup of scrub, so make sure you have a few small storage containers to hand.

  • 4 teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons virgin coconut oil
  • 3 teaspoons of honey
  • 2 drops of peppermint oil
  • 2 drops of orange oil

Homemade citrus and honey shampoo

If you’re looking to restore moisture and vigour to your hair as well as banishing dandruff, why not try this homemade Citrus and honey shampoo? The balancing oils help to repair damaged hair, it neutralises PH and kills bacteria without stripping your hair of its natural oils.

Simply mix all the ingredients together and massage into the head and scalp. The recipe has the tendency to separate, so give it a good mix through before every use.

  • 5 tablespoons raw honey
  • 5 drops Orange essential oil
  • 5 drops Lemon essential oil
  • One cup of water
  • Storage bottle (preferably dark glass with a dispenser or pump)

Anything to note?

Do not use lemon essential oil on you skin prior to sunbathing or other sun exposure, as this may cause temporary pigmentation of the skin. Try a patch test 24 hours before using the oil.
